This was first announced in September last year but the government gave more detail today. The National Victim Service starts with those bereaved by homicide in February this year. By April, it will be rolled out nationally. It promises that

“those who lose a loved one to murder or manslaughter will receive support for as long as they need it”

In March, the scheme will begin to be extended to vulnerable victims of all crimes. Victim Support will receive the new funding of £8 million for 2010/11 and success will depend in part on the service being delivered in partnership with specialist providers, that often being small charities.

Violence Against Women Strategy Consultation

This link is broken and has been removed.

The formal deadline for this consultation was Friday 29th May 2009.
The Violence against Women Strategy Consultation was launched on Monday 9th March 2009.

There are links on the website to:

1. The formal consultation document and Home Office web-site

2. The online survey

3.  Mori telephone results.

The purpose of the consultation is to: Raise awareness, discussion and debate on how to end violence against women. To test policy proposals designed to:

• prevent this violence • challenge attitudes that may uphold it • reduce women's fear of violence

The consultation will give the public and key stakeholders an opportunity to tell the Government what would make women feel and be safer. After the consultation the next stage will be to develop a Violence Against Women Strategy taking into account all views and learning from the consultation process.

End Violence Against Women - January 2009

1 in 4 local authority areas have no specialised violence against women support services, such as Rape Crisis Centre, refuges and domestic violence outreach projects or services for ethnic minority women.

This is the stark finding of the Map of Gaps 2 report by the End Violence Against Women Coalition and the Equality and Human Rights Commission.
